Avnet Employees Bring Merry Chirstmas to Mexico
Monterrey, Mex .- Avnet employees made possible a posada for
children in Villa Juarez, one of the poorest towns nearby the
city of Monterrey, Mexico.
This is an event that was started 9 years ago by Guillermo Sánchez,
Avnet Partner Solutions Mexico Country Manager, with the help
of the local church community, his family and co-workers at Avnet.
A posada is a Mexican celebration in which the participants remember
the Virgin's Mary travel from Jersualem to Bethlehem to give birth
to Jesus Christ at christmas. It is a party that includes singing,
praying, breaking piñatas, a meal, presents, and games.
This year, over 1,200 children in 4 chapels of Villa Juarez enjoyed
the simultaneous posadas, was made possible by Avnet's Shawn Snyder,
John Olivares, Rudy Ramos, Fred Cuen, Guillermo Sánchez, Luis
Pichardo, Mariano Costa, Maricarmen Ponce, Jorge García Reyes,
Susana García, Guillermo Estrada. Other participants include IBM's
Carlos Mateos, Mr. Cuen's father and nephew, and other family
and friends of Mr. Sánchez's.
Santa Claus came to Villa Juarez and gave away toys and blankets
for the children, who suffer from the cold in their cardboard
houses in which they live.
A donation was also made to the community for the construction
of a family center, in which the priest wants to give religious
and psychological support to these families who have nothing but
hope.
